about

Nature sound recordings plus organic music performances by Gordon Coxon and Yi Ling (Monica) Chao.

Inspired by travels through the Scottish Highlands and the mountains and coastal regions of Taiwan, Gordon spent much of 2016 collecting field recordings of birdsong, bugs, ocean waves, rivers, and other water courses, as well as thunder storms and even a typhoon with a view to creating a natural soundscape into which he placed a variety of organic instruments. Gongs, singing bowls, crystal bowls, bird whistles, flutes, shamanic drum, tongue drum, traditional Chinese drum, conch shells, chimes, shruti, harp and the human voice combine with these sounds of nature in an aural celebration of life and spirit. Special thanks to Tom Soltron for contributing 60in Earth gong.

“The sound of nature can make perfect music: ancient Chinese people listened to nature as an echo of themselves” - Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun
